Parenting Shapes the Future: Understanding Its Impact on Child Development

Parenting plays a crucial role in shaping a child's cognitive, emotional, and social development. This research explores the impact of different parenting styles on children's growth and behaviour. The study examines authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful parenting styles, analysing their effects on children’s academic performance, psychological well-being, and social skills. The research employs both qualitative and quantitative methods, including surveys and literature reviews, to assess the relationship between parenting practices and child development. The study reveals that authoritative parenting, which balances discipline with warmth, is the most effective in fostering resilience, self-esteem, and problem-solving skills in children. Conversely, authoritarian parenting, characterized by rigid rules and a lack of emotional support, often results in obedience but lower social competence and increased anxiety. Permissive parenting, which lacks firm boundaries, may lead to impulsive behaviours, while neglectful parenting is linked to lower academic achievement and emotional distress.
