Quantum Systems Taxonomy: Unifying Domains through Structured Classification Models

Quantum Systems Taxonomy: Unifying Domains through Structured Classification Models introduces a comprehensive framework for systematically categorising quantum research and technology domains. This document proposes a primary set of classifications, including established fields such as Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Computing, Quantum Electrodynamics, and Quantum Cosmology, alongside newly introduced system-level classifications: Quantumelics, Quantumonics, Quansosys, and Miscellaneatum. Each classification includes core subdomains, associated systems and architectures, and interdisciplinary overlaps to support coherent academic and industrial development across quantum sciences. This framework addresses a long-standing structural gap in the quantum research ecosystem, proposing a unifying taxonomy intended to facilitate collaboration, educational clarity, cross-disciplinary dialogue, and future innovation. As of April 2025, this work represents the first publicly available universal classification framework for quantum systems, with no prior comparable model identified. The framework builds upon previous structural work published on Zenodo (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.15257551). This document is provided under a Creative Commons licence for academic, educational, and research use, and invites researchers, institutions, and technical bodies to further adapt, refine, and expand the taxonomy.
