Integrating Ayurveda in the Management of Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Holistic Approach to Complementary Medicine
This study explores the potential of Ayurvedic treatments in managing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)through a mixed-methods approach combining both qualitative and quantitative data. The research involvesthree primary phases: an extensive literature review, case study analysis of four children with ASD whounderwent Ayurvedic treatments, and a statistical evaluation of existing clinical data. The literature reviewprovided foundational insights into Ayurvedic principles, while the case study analysis highlightedindividualized treatment plans and outcomes related to communication, social behavior, and emotionalregulation. Quantitative data was analyzed using standardized tools like the Childhood Autism Rating Scale(CARS) and Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC) to assess changes in autism severity and cognitive functionpre- and post-treatment. Results indicate that Ayurvedic treatments may contribute to symptomimprovement, particularly when integrated with conventional therapies. However, the study acknowledgeslimitations, including a small sample size and lack of long-term data, which constrain the generalizability ofthe findings. Despite these limitations, the study offers preliminary evidence supporting the use of Ayurvedaas a complementary approach to ASD treatment. It concludes with a call for further large-scale,interdisciplinary research to validate the efficacy of Ayurvedic therapies in autism care, emphasizing theimportance of tailored, patient-centric treatment plans..
