Simulation-Based Traffic Analysis of a Proposed Traffic Signal at the Most Congested Intersection Along Bahay Pare - San Luis - Sto. Domingo Road, San Luis Pampanga Using LocalSim3
This study analyzed the traffic conditions of the most congested intersection along Bahay Pare – San Luis–Sto.Domingo Road in San Luis, Pampanga, under signalized and unsignalized scenarios. The road segment was usuallyaffected by congestion as it passed through the town proper of the municipality. Quantitative research design, specifically the descriptive quantitative approach, was adopted to assess the traffic flow using real-world data andsimulation results. LocalSim3 software was utilized to simulate traffic scenarios, adding parameters such as vehicletype distribution, passenger car unit (PCU) values, and dynamic origin-destination matrix. Manual vehicle volumecounting served as the basis for added data in the simulation. Results from the unsignalized simulation identifiedIntersection III as the most congested among the seven analyzed intersections, with a Level of Service (LOS) ratingof F, indicating saturated traffic conditions. The signalized simulation demonstrated a notable improvement in LOSand reduced volume-to-capacity (V/C) ratios, highlighting the impact of installing a traffic light at the intersection. The findings suggested that a traffic control measure like signalization could significantly lessen congestion andimprove traffic flow efficiency at critical points. Further investigation was recommended to support themunicipality's long-term implementation and optimization of traffic signal systems.
