Literature is a depiction of human society. Literature has recorded social problems as well as the noble ideals of society. Tamil literature serves as a mirror reflecting the society in which it was created. One of the notable novels that emerged in Tamil Literary contemporary literature is “Thooppukkari”. Malarvathi is the author of the novel. She has written this novel about a scavenger woman living in the western part of the Kanyakumari district. Over time, a certain ethnic group, especially the female community of the group has been enslaved for the purpose of scavenging. Basically, women have been subjected to poverty in social and economic situations without progress. She is insulted in moral terms by society. She has been kept as a woman without any positive relations. It is easy to enslave a woman when she lacks the above-mentioned strengths that could empower her. So, a marginalised woman is mentally stereotyped as a slave. They also exploit the hard labour of women. The pain and suffering are greater for the enslaved ethnic group and especially the life of women. Malaravati has recorded that a woman subjected to these sorts of suppression and oppression thinks that she can educate her next generation to move forward through her novel “Thooppukkari.”
