Assessing the State of Preparedness: A Cross-Sectional Survey on Disaster Preparedness of College Student of San Isidro College
Natural disasters continue to pose challenges to schools and communities across the Philippines, highlighting the importance of preparedness at every level of society. Despite existing protocols, many institutions lack localized data to enhance disaster readiness among students. This exploration seeks to fill that gap by focusing on students' understanding and responses to natural hazards within their academic environment in Bukidnon. The study used a standardized disaster preparedness tool to gather responses from all enrolled college students, providing a comprehensive snapshot of their readiness across various natural hazards. The results show that college students display a consistent level of preparedness across various scenarios, including floods, earthquakes, landslides, typhoons, and fires. Their responses reflect a clear understanding of safety protocols and risk reduction measures. While knowledge levels are generally strong, the study reveals the need to reinforce the practical application of preparedness strategies. These findings support the development of more engaging and experience-based disaster education programs within academic institutions. The results suggest that enhancing disaster preparedness among college students necessitates not only raising awareness but also deepening the practical integration of preparedness into their daily routines.
