Quantum Neural Networks: A Hybrid Approach to Next-Generation Artificial Intelligence

Quantum Neural Networks (QNNs) integrate principles from quantum mechanics with neural network architectures to potentially revolutionize machine learning. This paper explores the foundational principles, current advancements, and the potential applications of QNNs. A qualitative research methodology, supported by literature review and theoretical analysis, was employed. The findings indicate that while QNNs are still largely theoretical or in experimental stages, they promise significant computational speedup and improved performance for complex tasks like optimization, classification, and data encoding. The paper also discusses future directions and challenges in making QNNs scalable and practically usable. Quantum Neural Networks (QNNs) represent a promising intersection of quantum computing and machine learning, offering the potential to outperform classical neural networks in specific tasks due to quantum parallelism and entanglement. This paper explores the theoretical foundations and architectural design of QNNs, examining their implementation using current quantum hardware and hybrid quantum-classical models. We analyse key quantum computing principles such as superposition, unitary evolution, and measurement, and how they are harnessed to perform learning tasks. Furthermore, we evaluate the performance of QNNs on benchmark classification problems, comparing them with classical counterparts in terms of accuracy, training efficiency, and scalability. The results indicate that, while current QNNs face significant challenges due to hardware limitations and noise, they exhibit promising capabilities that could lead to breakthroughs in computational learning efficiency. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge in quantum machine learning and highlights the need for further research in scalable quantum model architectures and noise-resilient training algorithms.
