DRUG UTILISATION PATTERNS OF ANALGESICS IN A DISTRICT HOSPITAL WARANGAL
ABSTRACT: The “drug utilization pattern of analgesics” refers to the way analgesic medications (drugs used to relieve pain) are prescribed, dispensed, and used by patients. Data were collected from various departments of District hospital warangal. A total of 200 patients were gathered over a period of six months. The study revealed that non steroidal anti- inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were the most commonly prescribed analgesics, followed by opioids and acetaminophen. AIM: The aim of studying the drug utilization pattern of analgesics is to understand and evaluate how these medications are prescribed, used, and managed in different healthcare settings. CONCLUSION: The study on the drug utilization pattern of analgesics indicates that Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs) remain the most commonly prescribed analgesics, though there is a growing concern about the over use of opioids and the potential for misuse. The prescription and usage patterns vary based on factors such as patient demographics, underlying medical conditions, and healthcare provider preferences. While analgesics are effective in managing pain, there is a need for more stringent guidelines and education to ensure their rational use, especially in the case of opioids.
