THE TRANSLATION OF IDIOMS AND THEIR SEMANTIC CHANGES ACROSS CULTURES
Idioms are fixed expressions whose meanings cannot be deduced from the literal meanings of their individual words. As culturally bound linguistic units, idioms present one of the most challenging aspects of translation. When idioms are translated across languages and cultures, they often undergo semantic shifts or require adaptation to preserve their communicative function. This paper examines the transformation of idioms in translation, focusing on the strategies translators employ and the semantic changes that result.
