Eastern North America, transcontinental in Canada. Saproxylic habits. Larvae develop within polypore fungi (e. g., the birch polypore (Fomitopsis betulina (Bull.) B. K. Cui, M. L. Han and Y. C. Dai (Fomitopsidaceae)), and adults occur in association with it as well (Brues 1927; Minch 1952); adults also occur on other fungi, including Daedalea confragosa Berk. (Fomitopsidaceae), Cerrena unicolor (Bull.) Murrill (Cerrenaceae), and Trametes versicolor (L.) Lloyd (Barron 1971).
