Deliverable D4.3 - SMART indexes of agrobiodiversity use in breeding, and empirical data
Deliverable 4.3 - "SMART indexes of agrobiodiversity use in breeding, and empirical data" presents indicators related to the benefits of investing in breeding of Neglected and Underutilised Crops (NUCs) through (i) genetic resources characterisation, maintenance and cultivation, (2) selection and adaptation in situ from available materials (i.e. dynamic management of genetic resources) and (3) multi-actor breeding programmes. The key benefits are introduced and then summarised in eight SMART indicators based on the principles and activities of the DIVINFOOD Living Labs (LLs) in the task "Novel approaches for multi-actor breeding for local adaptation and product quality" (T4.2). Each indicator is presented based on an “Indicator card” that includes background information, relevant references and how to measure it at breeding initiative level (STEP 1) and regional level (STEP 2). The general presentation of each indicator is followed by empirical data from the DIVINFOOD Living Labs. The document is complemented with empirical data from the self-evaluation of DIVINFOOD LLs for the STEP1 of all presented indicators.
