Experimental Investigation on Hardness of Sisal Fiber/S-Glass Fiber/Silica(SiO2) Reinforced Polymer Matrix Composites.

Combining the two materials can improve their qualities for a given use. Composite materials are made by combining two or more basic materials to create a material with improved properties. The aim of this work is to fabricate the composites of Sisal fiber and S-glass fiber reinforced with epoxy resin. Initially, sisal was chemically treated with a 5% NaOH alkaline solution. During the fabrication process, Silica (SiO2) was added in different weight percentages of the total composite slab, such as 1%, 1.5%, and 2%. The created composite was then processed using water jet machining in accordance with ASTM (D2240) requirements for the Shore D hardness test. The study demonstrates that the chemical treatment and nano filler improved the hardness of the created composites significantly.
