Methodology for Building Synergies with European Initiatives: The BIOFIN-EU Perspective
This technical article describes coordinated steps and ways to reach out to projects and initiatives relevant to BIOFIN-EU’s objectives, through which synergies, exchanging good practices and providing evidence for EU policy developments will be enhanced. The expected common activities include joint dissemination and/or exploitation activities, as well as coordinated deliverables related to policy recommendations. This process aims to promote technological innovations, effective stakeholder engagement, while also enhancing crossproject learning, accelerating market uptake of results, enabling evidence-based policy development, and supporting long-term sustainability of outcomes. The methodology ensures impactful knowledge exchange, supports strategic policy alignment, and amplifies ecosystem-building efforts. BIOFIN-EU, an R&I project funded by the EU, unites 13 experts from 10 countries to find financial solutions to address biodiversity loss and enhance nature conservation. The project redirects funds from harmful activities to nature-positive investments, promoting harmony between human actions and nature. BIOFIN-EU will develop a framework and technology to support large-scale investments in nature-based solutions (NbS), streamline decisions, and standardize investments. A data-driven dashboard will enhance project appraisal and risk assessment, aiding the EU's biodiversity goals. Case studies will identify gaps in the Sustainable Finance Taxonomy and inform policy recommendations.
