In the late 1920s, Kazi Nazrul Islam emerged on the Bengali literary scene. It was as if he had stepped forward to give literary expression to the upheaval of a new era—the conflicts of hope and aspiration, and the pain of exploitation and oppression. His essays, rich in subject matter, thought, and logical force, truly deserve serious discussion. Not only that, these essays serve as documents of the time they belong to. Nazrul wrote nearly a hundred essays and speeches—a number that is far from insignificant. Many of these were published as editorials in the evening daily Nabajug, the bi-weekly Dhumketu, and the weekly Langal. His essays are marked by logical coherence, a sense of judgment, and intellectual depth, making them one of the significant achievements of Bengali prose literature. Another notable aspect of his literary style is that his essays maintain a seamless structure, with thoughtful organization, clear paragraph divisions, and a natural flow of ideas. These essays have added a new dimension to Bengali literature. In this article entitled ‘Thoughts on Nation and Society in Kazi Najrul Islam’s Essays’, an effort has been made to trace Kazi Nazrul Islam’s portrayal of nation and society in his prose pieces. [বিশ শতকের দুইয়ের দশকের শেষ দিকে বাংলা সাহিত্য জগতে কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের আবির্ভাব। এই নতুন যুগের আলোড়ন , আশা-আকাঙ্ক্ষার দ্বন্দ্ব, শোষণ- নিপীড়নের বেদনাকে সাহিত্যে রূপ দিতেই যেন এগিয়ে এলেন তিনি। বিষয়, ভাব ও যুক্তির প্রাবল্যে তাঁর প্রবন্ধগুলি যথেষ্ট আলোচনার দাবি রাখে। শুধু তাই নয়, এই প্রবন্ধগুলি একটি সময়ের দলিল। তাঁর প্রবন্ধ ও অভিভাষণ প্রায় একশো'র কাছাকাছি। সংখ্যাটা খুব নগণ্য নয়। এর অনেকগুলি সান্ধ্য দৈনিক 'নবযুগ', অর্ধ সাপ্তাহিক 'ধূমকেতু', সাপ্তাহিক 'লাঙ্ল' পত্রিকায় সম্পাদকীয় আকারে প্রকাশিত হয়েছিল। প্রবন্ধের মধ্যে যুক্তি-শৃঙ্খলা, বিচারবোধ, মননশীলতা, নজরুলের প্রবন্ধ সাহিত্যের অন্যতম গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সাফল্য। তাঁর রচনাশৈলীর আর একটি দিক হল, প্রবন্ধের বিন্যাস, পরিচ্ছেদ বিভাজন এবং ভাবের প্রবাহে কোথাও বাধা সৃষ্টি করেননি। এই প্রবন্ধাবলী বাংলা সাহিত্যে ভিন্ন মাত্রা সংযোজন করেছে।]
