The development features of the Chinese piano concerto genre from 1978 (the period of reform and opening-up) to the present

With the beginning of the Reform and Opening-Up Period, the creative endeavors of Chinese composers in the field of piano concertos have undergone nearly half a century of development. This art form has gradually matured and gained vitality: from the dynamic rise of the 1980s, through the explorations and uncertainties of the 1990s, to the thoughtful and integrative processes of the 21st century, reflecting societal changes and the evolution of artistic ideas. The purpose of this study is to examine the historical trajectory and artistic features of Chinese piano concertos during the Reform and Opening-Up Period, analyzing the role of social changes and cultural currents in the evolution of this genre. The significance of these works in the process of nationalizing Chinese piano music is highlighted. By analyzing the compositions of this historical period, the author convincingly argues that Chinese piano concertos have reflected the characteristics of a national style combined with innovations, showcasing the unique features of Chinese music in the context of globalization. The object of the study is the process of the evolution of Chinese piano concertos and its characteristics during the Reform and Opening-Up Period. The subject of the study is the piano concertos created in China during this period. The primary focus is on analyzing three key stages of their development: from the 1980s to the 21st century. The research methodology combines theoretical methods of analysis, synthesis, and comparison with empirical methods such as observation and description, coupled with analysis. The findings of the study reveal that the development of Chinese piano concertos during the Reform and Opening-Up Period not only incorporated Western musical techniques but also enriched them with profound elements of Chinese culture. As a result, a unique musical form with distinctly artistic features emerged.
