Software Architecture for Data Librarians
This presentation (slides) provides an introduction to software architecture concepts tailored for data librarians. It explores fundamental definitions, vocabulary, and diverse approaches to software architecture, emphasizing understanding complexity and structural relationships within software systems. Real-world examples and established information systems are showcased to illustrate architectural principles and practices. The presentation aims to establish a shared model for analyzing information systems, focusing on structural complexity, system behavior, and software qualities, moving beyond mere requirements. Practical exercises involving tools like draw.io and generative AI are incorporated to enhance understanding and application. Topics covered include the C4 model, components, interfaces, coupling, cohesion, architecture and design principles, patterns, styles, and the distinction between monolithic and distributed systems. Limitations of the presentation are also acknowledged, noting that it is a broad introduction and does not involve programming, software development, or hands-on code design.
