Phytochemical Profiling and Pharmacological Activities of Indigenous Herbal Medicines: A Pharmacognosy Perspective

Traditional health care systems globally have been relying on indigenousherbal remedies, which present a variety of therapeutic properties by virtue oftheir complex phytochemical content. The review outlines the phytochemicalconstituents and pharmacological activity of the principal indigenousmedicinal herbs’ turmeric, neem, ashwagandha, and Giloy from apharmacognosy aspect. Strongly emphasizing contemporary analyticalmethods such as chromatographic and spectroscopic analyses, the reviewunderscores the necessity of intense phytochemical profiling andpharmacognostic analysis for quality control, standardization, and safety. Thepharmacological actions of these herbs—such as antioxidant, antiinflammatory, immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, and neuroprotectiveactivities—are discussed in relation to their bioactive principles. In spite ofencouraging promise in therapy, problems include variable standardization, scarce clinical evidence, and regulation issues. This integration emphasizesthe necessity of evidence-based incorporation of traditional indigenous herbalremedies into modern healthcare, developing sustainable, culturallyembedded, and efficacious alternative treatments.
