Use Of Sea Imagery In Selected English Poems
Abstract: The present research paper is an attempt to analyse the portrayal of sea/ocean as a water body to seek connection between human beings and the sea – its waves, shore and the background associated with it. Sea/ocean imagery has been remained eminent attraction of the poets to bring into light the human condition by using figurative language. The selected poems ‘On the Sea’, ‘Break, Break, Break’ and ‘Dover Beach’, emphasise how human beings are attached emotionally and spiritually with this water body. It is described as a life force, an escape from the routine life and reminder of death, life and survival. It represents through its tides and waves the psyche of the human beings. Poets have used water imagery to delve deep into the inner self of the humans. The sea imagery is exploited very effectively by the poets to convey an eternity of the Nature
