Performance of different okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench] varieties under Eastern Ghats region of India

An experiment was carried out during the late Kharif season of 2022-23 at P.G. instructional Research Farm of the Department of Horticulture, M.S. Swaminathan School of Agriculture, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Paralakhemundi, Odisha. The primary focus of the experiment was to assess the performance of eighteen distinct okra varieties. This assessment encompassed the examination of seventeen different traits. The experimental design employed for this study was a Randomized Block Design with three replications. The result revealed that significant differences were observed among all the genotypes for all the seventeen characters like growth, flowering, yield and yield attributes and quality. Among eighteen varieties the variety ISP-800 recorded the maximum number of fruits plant-1, fruit breadth and fruit yield hectare-1. The maximum TSS and Vitamin C content was recorded in the variety ISP-800 and Arka Anamika respectively. Among the varieties, ISP-800, Arka Anamika, Kashi Pragati, Bhendi-S-51 and Debdurga excelled in different growth, flowering, yield and yield attributing characters and these varieties can be suggested to the farmers in the Eastern Ghats Region of Odisha.
