Design and Development of a Morse Code-Based Survival Beacon Using LoRa Technology
This paper presents the development of a Morse code-based survival beacon utilizing LoRa (LongRange) communication technology to enable emergency messaging in areas with limited or no networkcoverage. The system comprises a low-power microcontroller, a tactile input interface for encoding Morsesignals, and a LoRa transceiver for long-range wireless transmission. Designed specifically for disasterprone or remote environments, the beacon can transmit SOS or custom Morse sequences across severalkilometres. Real-world testing demonstrated reliable communication over distances exceeding [X km], withminimal energy consumption, making it suitable for integration in rescue kits, hiking gear, or remote workersafety systems. The approach merges the simplicity of Morse with the robustness of LoRa to provide a costeffective, resilient emergency signalling solution.
