FUEL PREHEATING FOR IMPROVING THE PERFORMANCE OF IC ENIGNE
This study presents a passive fuel preheating system designed to enhance combustion efficiency in internal combustion engines by utilizing exhaust gas heat recovery. The system employs a copper coil wound around a secondary fuel tank, through which hot exhaust gases are directed. As the gases flow through the coil, thermal energy is transferred to the fuel, raising its temperature prior to combustion. Preheated fuel exhibits lower viscosity, resulting in improved atomization, more efficient combustion, and reduced emissions. The setup includes two fuel tanks—one standard and one preheated—to allow performance comparisons. This method eliminates the need for external power sources and leverages otherwise wasted thermal energy, making it a cost-effective and energy-efficient solution. Experimental observations indicate potential improvements in fuel economy and engine performance. The system is particularly suitable for small to medium-capacity engines, offering a practical approach to enhancing thermal efficiency through waste heat utilization.
