Supporting Code and Data for "Extreme and Compound Events in Lakes" (Nature Reviews Earth & Environment)
This repository contains the code and data used to generate two figures from the accepted manuscript: 1. Global spatial patterns of decadal trends in lake heatwave characteristics (1981–2020):Based on the GLAST dataset, this figure illustrates spatial trends in the frequency and intensity of lake heatwaves globally over the historical period. 2. Dissolved oxygen (DO) responses to extreme weather events in lakes:These panels explore how lake DO concentrations respond to different types of climatic extremes. (a) Change in the depth at which DO drops below 5 mg L⁻¹ in August across 100 lakes in the northeastern U.S., comparing a record-wet year to an average year. (b) Change in August bottom-water DO in 2014 (Sweden’s hottest summer and Finland’s second hottest), relative to 2013, across over 900 lakes. The accompanying files include scripts (R/MATLAB) and input data for figure reproduction.
