A Study on the effects of long term water scarcity on the lives of rural people in Maharashtra

Abstract: Water scarcity is one of the critical issues in rural areas of Maharashtra, which significantly impacts the health, livelihoods and socio-economic stability of the rural people. The study mainly focuses on the long-term water scarcity in the lives of rural people. Access to hygiene practices and clean drinking water at home, in schools and in medical facilities is constrained. The rural people, especially women and children, suffer more from water scarcity because they are normally the ones who collect it. Long-distance carrying water is extremely challenging for the body and can put you at risk for exploitation and safety hazards. Nearly two-thirds of Maharashtra’s districts, almost 24 out of 36, are currently facing water crises. The research also examines the socio-economic challenges faced by rural people, such as health issues, migration, agricultural productivity, and the dynamics between rural and urban areas. The findings highlight government action to ease the difficulties faced by those impacted and the need for sustainable water management
