Postcolonial Identity and the Role of Exile in Edward Said's Works: A Literary Exploration of Dislocation and Selfhood
This research paper will study how Edward Said’s works have explained the distortions of identity and cultural representations of colonised part of world by west or colonisers for the power structure. Said has involved himself into finding out the hybridity among the culture of a ‘colonised’ which is caused by the effect of colonialism; along with observing the resistance from the side of the colonised for preserving and perpetuating their own culture and history. This research paper will explore Edward Said’s interpretation of the confusion of identity that happens to humankind when they transfer from one culture to another. The experiences and deeply-rooted every day challenges that are faced by colonised people are documented in works of Edward Said such as “Orientalism,” “Reflections on Exile” and “Culture and Imperialism.”
