Hawking Realized: The First Quantum Simulation of Black Hole Radiation
This article presents a pioneering quantum simulation of Hawking radiation, conducted on IBM's Brisbane quantum computer using the Qiskit framework, as a tribute to Stephen Hawking's groundbreaking theoretical work on black hole evaporation. The simulation employs an 8-qubit system to model the entanglement between a black hole horizon and its emitted radiation, successfully achieving all targeted outcomes: a specific measurement distribution, entanglement entropy following the area law, a clear Page curve, state visualizations, thermal-like histograms, and high fidelity with low trace distance. Mathematical formulations, including entanglement entropy and fidelity calculations, are detailed to underscore the simulation's success. This work surpasses previous global benchmarks, marking the first hardware-verified realization of Hawking's predictions and advancing the field of quantum gravity through computational means.
