Exploring Indigenous Knowledge in Financial Management: Insights from Kautilya's Arthashastra
Abstract: This paper examines the financial management principles articulated in Kautilya’s Arthashastra, an ancient Indian treatise on statecraft, economics, and governance. By analyzing its teachings on budgeting, taxation, debt management, and ethical governance, the study highlights the enduring relevance of these indigenous ideas in modern financial practices. The paper argues that Kautilya’s insights offer valuable lessons for sustainable and ethical financial decision-making, particularly in the context of today’s globalized economy. It concludes with recommendations for integrating these principles into contemporary financial education and policy-making.
