Mindfulness and meditation have been central to Indian wisdom for centuries, deeply embedded in traditions like Yoga, Buddhism, and Vedanta. In recent years, these practices have gained worldwide recognition for their psychological and therapeutic benefits. This paper traces the roots of mindfulness and meditation in ancient Indian philosophy and explores their relevance in modern psychological practices. It examines scientific research on their effects on mental well-being, particularly in reducing stress, enhancing emotional regulation, improving cognitive function, and managing conditions like anxiety and depression. Additionally, the study compares ancient Indian meditative traditions with contemporary psychological approaches, highlighting how mindfulness is integrated into clinical settings. Lastly, it discusses challenges such as cultural misinterpretation, scientific validation, and accessibility, while suggesting directions for future research.
