THE IMPACT OF SOD2 ALA16VAL (RS4880) GENOTYPE AND ALLELIC VARIANTS ON GLOMERULONEPHRITIS DEVELOPMENT

This study investigates the distribution of allele variants and genotypes of the SOD2 Ala16Val (rs4880) gene in the context of glomerulonephritis (GN). We analyzed the allele and genotype distributions in patients with GN and their association with the disease. The results indicate a protective role of the Ala allele and an association between the Val allele and an increased risk of glomerulonephritis. This research emphasizes the importance of genetic factors in understanding the pathogenesis of GN, providing potential biomarkers for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The study was conducted with 150 GN patients and 150 healthy controls, all of European descent, using PCR and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) to determine genotypes.
