Why Are There Entities at All, and Not Rather Nothing? An Analysis of the Fundamental Question of Metaphysics.
The fundamental question of metaphysics, “Why are there entities at all, and not rathernothing?” explores the nature of existence through its contrast with the concept ofabsolute absence. This article analyzes the question’s structure, paradoxicality, fundamentality, and existential significance, emphasized by the experience of death. Itexamines the difficulties of understanding the question due to its abstractness, paradoxicality, and philosophical language. A method combining Hegel’s Aufhebung andHusserl’s epoch´e is proposed for a rigorous hermeneutic analysis, avoiding metaphoricalinterpretations. The method aims to reveal the reasons for existence through thedescriptive language of consciousness, shaping the experience of entities in opposition tonothing.
