Water Quality in Yamuna during Winter Season

The study delves into the water quality of the Yamuna River, which originates from the Yamunotri glacier in the majestic himalayas and flows through multiple states, including Delhi, before merging with the Gangas. The present study focused on two sampling points Kashmiri gate and Okhla during the month of December. The physio-chemical characteristics of two sampling points include pH, electrical conductivity, Total Suspended Solids (TSS), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). The primary aim was to assess how human activities influence water quality of the river, particularly in relation to pollution levels and their ecological consequences. The findings reveal significant discrepancies in these parameters between the two locations, highlighting varying degrees of contamination, revealing Okhla as more polluted than Kashmiri gate. This research provides critical insights into the environmental health of the Yamuna River and underscores the urgent need for comprehensive water quality management strategies to reduce pollution and restore the river’s ecological balance.
