The heroine of the epic poem Manimekalai, Manimekalai, is created by Satan as a female saint, a woman who turned a prison into a place of charity, and a cure for hunger. However, Satan has identified Manimekalai as a ‘woman’ in many places in his writings. Feminist reading is the art of capturing such definitions of women that are evident in the works of male writers. The purpose of this article is to apply this method to Manimekalai, the heroine of the epic poem Manimekalai.
