Processed Data for Field Evaluation of Real-Time Acoustic Monitoring
This dataset contains processed acoustic monitoring data from a field evaluation of prototype Autonomous Surveying Units (ASUs) developed by Instinct Environmental. The ASUs were deployed during the 2024 breeding season at eight Northern Spotted Owl (Strix occidentalis caurina) activity centers in the Pacific Northwest, USA. Each unit performed onboard sound classification using a convolutional neural network (PNW-Cnet v5) and transmitted detection summaries via satellite. For evaluation, ASUs were co-located with conventional autonomous recording units (ARUs), and recordings from both devices were post-processed using the same CNN model. The dataset includes extracted metadata, sound pressure level (SPL) metrics, model prediction outputs, and onboard detection summaries. These data support the associated manuscript and provide insight into species detection rates, recording quality, and system performance under remote field conditions. All files are in CSV format and organized by deployment unit and processing stage.
