Report on the calibration of absolute salinometers

This document is MINKE’s Deliverable 9.8 “Report on the calibration of absolute salinometers”. It describes the inter-laboratory comparison made on a Conductivity-Temperature Depth (CTD) probe SBE 37 MP, at different salinities to determine the measurement errors made by CTD probes when calibrated to a given salinity and used at a different salinity. It also describes the protocol developed to adjust and calibrate an optical refractometer called NOSS and compares the results of salinity measurement by the classical conductivity technique and the refractive index method.
