'Building Your Own Brain' - A Guide to Using Artificial Intelligence in Organisations

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has the potential to revolutionise organisations and their management, providing a paradigm shift to create a new working environment. A new approach is, therefore, required to allow the benefits of using AI to be fully realised. This research considers the current position and highlights the potential areas that organisations can address, in respect of this new resource. The AI Environment was examined, comprising the organisational setting for these tools. The objective was to identify the main elements of an implementation initiative for AI in organisations. Several semi-structured interviews were conducted with academics and practitioners. A review of the principal journals was undertaken and important articles on the use of AI were selected and analysed. The aim was to discern key areas for the use of these tools and leveraging the potential AI benefits. This data was examined using inductive methods with a thematic analysis. The results were then organised into major themes, linking academic and practitioner points, in an account of this empirical research. A statement to provide a recommended approach for AI implementation and use in organisations was then constructed, in the form of an AI Guide. A systems approach was also utilised to summarise the research results in the form of the AI Process. This should assist practitioners and summarise the results of the research, in respect of the academic perspective. KEYWORDS: Artificial Intelligence; AI Benefits; AI Implementation; AI Process; AI Guide; AI Environment.
