Propithecus deckenii Peters 1870

Propithecus Deckenii [sic] Peters, 1870 Monatsberichte der Königlich Preussischen Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Berlin, p. 421 Current valid name: Propithecus deckenii Peters, 1870 Syntypes: ZMB 3465, female, skull and skin; ZMB 3466, female, skin and skull; “ Kanatzi, 18° s. Breitengrad ” [presumably location near Maintirano], NW Madagascar; collected by von der Decken, between 1860 and 1861. Comment: In the Mammal Species of the World (Groves 2005), Grandidier (1867) is erroneously listed as the describer of Propithecus deckenii. However, Grandidier (1867) described Propithecus Verreauxi [sic] as a new species and made no mention of Propithecus deckenii. The first description and name of Propithecus deckenii appeared in Peters (1870).
