Future-Ready Pharma: AI-Enhanced MES Workflows in Clinical Trial and Drug Manufacturing Environments

A paradigm shift in the pharmaceutical industry is taking place through the application of Artificial Intelligence into Manufacturing Execution Systems. The implications of combining AI with MES, particularly as they apply to the spaces of clinical trials and drug manufacturing, are investigated in this research. It highlights the use of AI as a workflow enhancer for MES in refining operational efficiency, product quality, compliance and time to market for drug development. Using data and trends from 2015-2025 this paper presents real world examples, case studies and current industry data. It details the obstacles to adoption such as integrating the data, regulatory issues, and a prepared workforce and provides predictions and suggestions for productive AI implementation moving forward. Throughout the paper illustration, tables and figures serve to provide visual insight into and help clarify key concepts. Ultimately, the results show the AI-powered MES as a future-oriented strategy to foster improved efficiency, patient-centeredness, and competitiveness for the pharmaceutical industry.
