Methodological Note Corpus-based discourse analysis of migration-related discourses in media, politics and civil society
This methodological note lays out some fundamental concepts, definitions and procedures used in the corpus-based discourse analysis conducted in Work Package 4. I-CLAIM conceptualises irregularity as produced at the nexus of nested legal systems, political and public discourses on irregularity. Work Package 4 focuses on the discursive dimension of the irregularity assemblage and, in the survey part, the perception of discourse. We refer to the ‘discursive construction’ and to the ‘discursive representation’ of social realities, such as irregularised migrants, migration and irregularity as such. WP4 focuses on discourse in media, politics and civil society as key areas of the discursive construction of irregularity.
