The Grammar Trap: Does Mastery of English Rules Hinder Filipino Students' Reading Comprehension?
English is one of the official languages of the Philippines and serves as the primary medium of instruction in many schools. Despite this, Filipino students have consistently performed poorly in reading comprehension assessments. Given that grammar mastery is a significant part of English instruction, it raises the question: does an excessive focus on grammar hinder students’ ability to understand texts effectively?
