Emerging Trends & Technologies in Library Services with the help of Mobile Apps
Abstract Libraries are one of the foremost critical social institutions. No society is complete without a library storing information from the world over. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) have extensively impacted libraries and their services. In the digital era, libraries are transforming from traditional spaces to dynamic digital hubs, significantly enhancing user experiences and library operations. One of the key advancements in this transformation is the integration of mobile applications, which allow users to interact with library resources more efficiently. This paper explores the role of mobile apps in improving library services, focusing on MOPAC, a mobile library app developed using LIBMAN software. MOPAC offers users seamless access to library resources, enabling them to search for books, reserve titles, renew borrowed items, and receive real-time notifications. In addition to enhancing accessibility, mobile apps foster user engagement through interactive features such as personalized book recommendations, discussion forums, and virtual study groups. They also streamline library operations by automating cataloging, membership management, and borrowing processes. Despite the numerous advantages, the adoption of mobile apps in libraries faces challenges, including data security and infrastructure requirements. Overall, mobile apps like MOPAC are reshaping the future of libraries by bridging the gap between traditional and digital learning. This paper concludes that libraries must continue to embrace mobile technology to meet the evolving needs of their users and create an inclusive, knowledge-driven society.
