Gendered Spaces in Indian Higher Education: A Sociological Study through the Lens of Feminist Theory
This paper explores the concept of 'gendered spaces' within Indian higher education, analyzing how institutional design, cultural expectations, and social norms collectively create different lived experiences for male and female students. Drawing on feminist theories and spatial sociology, this paper employs a literature review, theoretical framing, and case analysis of major Indian universities to show how campus environments reinforce patriarchal structures. The study aims to reveal the subtle but pervasive ways in which gender operates in educational institutions, while also highlighting student resistance and feminist interventions.
