State-of-the-art in Best Practices in relation to the calibration methodologies in use for instrumentation measuring the ocean variables temperature, absolute salinity, currents, dissolved oxygen, pH, pCO2, and turbidity.
This document is MINKE’s Deliverable 2.7 “Review of Best Practices in relation to the calibration methodologies in use for instrumentation measuring the ocean variables temperature, absolute salinity, currents, dissolved oxygen, pH, pCO2, and turbidity”.Calibration is a fundamental step when carrying out any kind of measurement, and becomes fundamental for the measurements in situ, as different interferences need to be taken into account to reduce biases and inconsistencies in the measurement results. This document reviews and assesses the state-of-the-art and best practices in relation to the existing calibration protocols and methodologies for seven key essential ocean variables measured in situ.A review of the existing protocols related to marine observations in a guideline document, with proposed solutions for the cases in which such protocols are lacking, will help to fill a current gap and enable marine scientists to record data homogeneously, as a prerequisite for integration into large-scale repositories.
