DESIGNING THE LEAST-COST MINI-GRID SOLUTION FOR THE LALA COMMUNITY
My case study focuses on the technical and economic analysis to identify the most cost-effective mini-grid configuration to meet the energy needs of the Lala community. It outlines the community’s electricity demand (using the RAMP tool), assesses available renewable energy resources and evaluates system components such as solar PV, battery storage and diesel backup. Using modeling tools like MicroGridsPy, the report compares different system designs and determines the optimal mix that minimizes the Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE) while ensuring reliability and sustainability. The final recommendation balances affordability and scalability.
