Cyber-Safe Lebanese Schools Initiative

The Lebanese school system lacks cybersecurity awareness and education, leaving students, parents, and faculty vulnerable to online threats. The absence of structured cybersecurity curricula and limited digital literacy among educators and students makes the issue even worse. Many schools prioritize traditional subjects over digital safety due to insufficient funding or resources. With approximately 1.3 million students and tens of thousands of educators, this gap in cybersecurity education has very severe and widespread implications. Students increasingly rely on online resources for education, yet without proper training, they remain susceptible to cybersecurity threats. A lack of awareness leads to an increase in cybercrime, affecting not only individuals but also Lebanon’s broader digital infrastructure. Without intervention, these vulnerabilities will continue to grow, leaving students exposed to dangerous risks. Lebanon’s economic crisis has further deprioritized cybersecurity education, with schools focusing on immediate survival rather than long-term digital literacy. Cybersecurity education is widely overlooked in school curriculums. Many educators themselves are not well-trained in digital safety, and there is a lack of national policies prioritizing cybersecurity awareness in schools and institutions. Additionally, financial and logistical barriers in underfunded public schools prevent the implementation of large-scale cybersecurity programs. This white paper aims to introduce the Cyber-Safe Lebanese Schools initiative.By educating students early, we can build a generation that is more resilient to cyber threats.
