Implementation of Wash in Schools (WINS)

Abstract: The Department of Education (DepEd) formally established the Comprehensive WASH in Schools (WinS) Program through DepEd Order No. 10, s.2016. By establishing minimal requirements for water, sanitation, and hygiene facilities and encouraging students to change their behavior, this policy seeks to institutionalize WASH in basic education schools (DepEd, 2016). This study aimed to determine the extent of implementation of wash in schools in a medium sized schools’ division in Southern Negros for the School Year 2024-2025 using the researcher-made questionnaire to the 151 respondents that has passed the rigorous validity and reliability tests. The findings indicated that the majority of respondents were female, from the secondary level, and located in far schools. The extent of WinS implementation was found to be at a very great extent, even when analyzed when grouped according to different variables, including in comparative analysis. The findings call for programs where schools can further expound and continue best practices of the Wins Implementation. Keywords: Wash in School, Water Access, Sanitation, Hygiene, Deworming, and Health Education
