Relationship between physical activity and fibromyalgia: A review

Abstract: Introduction: Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes widespread pain and tenderness throughout the body, affecting the quality of life of those who suffer from it. In the context of physical activity, studies show that exercise can be beneficial in managing symptoms, although it must be adapted and personalized for each subject. Objectives: The objective of this paper is to conduct a literature review on the relationship between physical activity and fibromyalgia. Development: Low-intensity exercise programs, such as yoga, swimming or tai-chi, have been shown to reduce pain and improve physical function in people with fibromyalgia. However, an individualized approach supervised by health professionals is crucial to avoid worsening symptoms. Conclusions: The cause of the disease remains unknown, and improvement treatments are still insufficient, with future research on fibromyalgia in its different areas being necessary.
