Human Resource Accounting and Financial Performance of Listed Information Communication Technology Companies in Nigeria
This study examined the relationship between the HRA and financial performance of listed ICT in Nigeria. HRA refers to the ways human resources are represented in monetary values in the financial reports to give a fair presentation of employee costs and value. Financial performance as the dependent variable was operationalized with the following variables: Human capital efficiency, organisational profitability, return on assets and return on equity. All the same, human resource accounting, which is the independent variable was measured with number of employees, gross staff cost and HRA-related costs (training, development, and welfare costs). A descriptive research design was adopted for the study and collection of data was done using secondary sources. The study is supported with Human capital theory. To achieve the objectives of the study, financial reports of ICT companies listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group as of 2022 were collected for the period of ten years (2013-2022). Purposive sampling technique was used to determine the sample size. Quantitative data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed Human resources accounting variables jointly have a positive and significant influence on financial performance (R = .926, R2 = .857, DW = 1.53, F = 529.488, B = 2.489, t = 23.011, p (0.00) < 0.05). The study recommends firms in ICT sector in Nigeria should invest more in human resources to enhance their productivity and competitiveness.
