Investigation Of The Effect Of Berberine On Memory And Learning In Aged Rats Undergoing Sevoflurane Anesthesia
Fifty-six Sprague Dawley rats, all male with an age range of 20–24 weeks and weighing between 350–500 g, were obtained from Eskisehir Osmangazi University Saki Yenilli Experimental Animal Production and Application Laboratory. the Animal Experiments Local Ethics Committee of Eskisehir Osmangazi University approved the experimental procedure under decision number 893-1, dated June 16, 2022. During the experiment, the temperature of the room housing the rats was maintained at 19–21°C, accompanied by a cycle of 12 hours of light and darkness. The rats were placed in groups, with each cage containing four animals, and supplied with sufficient water and food. Each rat was permanently marked on its tail using dye for identification. Four groups, each containing 14 subjects, were formed: I) Control II) Sevoflurane III) Berberine IV) Sevoflurane + berberine In our study, we aimed to investigate the function of miR-9, miR-124, miR-132, miR-134, mi-138 and BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) and to examine the neuroprotective effects of berberine in Sevoflurane-induced neurotoxicity in elderly rats. The current investigation sought to investigate the impact of berberine on memory and learning in aged rats undergoing sevoflurane anesthesia and to evaluate the outcomes.
