IMPROVING STUDENTS READING COMPREHENSION THROUGH ENGLISH NOVELS
Abstract. Reading comprehension is a fundamental skill in second language acquisition, yet traditional methods often rely on short, intensive reading passages that may not fully engage learners. This study investigates the use of English novels as a tool to improve students’ reading comprehension in an EFL context. Drawing on principles of extensive reading and established language teaching frameworks (TESOL, Communicative Language Teaching, and Task-Based Language Teaching), we examine how reading full-length novels can enhance vocabulary acquisition, inferencing skills, reading fluency, cultural awareness, and learner motivation.
