Ai_driven_waste_segregation
Uncontrolled urbanization and industrialization have exacerbated the problem of waste disposal rapidly. The lack of proper disposal methods increases pollution and hampers recycling. It is estimated that without active intervention, the world would produce approximately 3.4 billion tons of waste annually by 2050 (World Bank, 2018). The existing practices of waste sorting are largely done manually due to a lack of automation which is inefficient, costly, and hazardous. The study aims to analyze and design an AI-based solution which recognizes and classifies waste items using deep learning techniques on pre-trained image datasets. The objectives include transforming urban waste management systems and sustainability through automating hands-free, real-time waste sorting.
