An Interview About Shepseskaf
Here some comments about an interview (26 May 2025) regarding king Shepseskaf (Egyptian IV Dynasty) and a solar eclipse. Since I have studied the case, that is, the supposed Shepseskaf’s eclipse, and the pyramid of this king, a pyramid which is known as the Mastabat Fara'un, I am forced to propose some further details. It is also necessary to stress once more that archaeoastronomy started in 1869, with the Das Templum, by Heinrich Nissen. Clive Ruggles, an archaeoastronomer, considers Nissen as the father of modern archaeoastronomy. Nissen studied the orientation of ancient temples and roman decumani. It is not true what Giulio Magli says in the interview of May 2025, that archaeoastronomy ‘was conceived in the late 1960s’. It was conceived a century before. Regarding archaeoastronomy, at the end of my discussion I will stress that the Pepi II pyramid and the Mastabat Fara’un are linked by the sun at sunset on summer solstice, such as they are linked by the sun the sunrise on winter solstice.
